| Jul 2006 - Jun 2007 | Placement Programmer - Exel Computer Systems Plc | ||||||||||||||||
|
My position at Exel was to develop and maintain an Enterprise Resource Management software package, which manages a range of organisational functions such as accounting, stock control and manufacturing. This involved programming in Java and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB3), design of SQL Server databases, and maintenance of legacy systems in C, Visual Basic and Crystal Reports. For example, working from a specification I developed a bespoke module for an automotive thermoplastics company to estimate the cost of manufacturing parts, given a list of constituent parts, raw materials, labour and overhead costs. It also suggests a retail price given a desired profit margin, and calculates the resulting annual sales value and cost overhead recovery. The work involved designing and creating the database and their according EJB Entities, session beans which managed the bulk of the processing, and the application including XML interface layouts. The placement has given me experience developing a commercial software product using new technologies and working in a professional development team. |
